TONY ROBINSON

(Drummer/Percussionist, Composer, Writer and Educator)

Tony Robinson is a drummer of world class proportion and a power house of energy and feel combined with superb technical facility.  Emerging as one of the most talented musicians and composers of today. He is also gaining much respect as a performer and educator, performing with such acclaimed artists as Tom Larsen, Joe Baione and Marco Hernandez as well as in his own outfit’s the Tony Robinson Trio and New Evolution Orchestra. serving as Marching Percussion Instructor at Smyrna High School in Smyrna, Delaware. 

A native of Hampton, VA, Tony Robinson was first musically inspired by watching is mother tour the east-coast as a child.  Performing in many grade school and college honors ensembles, Robinson has studied with some of percussion’s best.   His primary teachers were James P. Stanley, Pedro Orey and Tory Smart.  From sideman to leader to educator, Robinson has become an innovator  and true visionary.

Currently composing and arranging for many ensembles including his own premier Progressive Jazz power trio the Tony Robinson Extreme Trio (TRT), which has one CD to it’s credit entitled “New Life”, which is jam-packed with fiery Latin-Jazz and pulsing funk.  As well as his super group New Evolution Orchestra. Along with freelance performance with various artist and ensembles, Robinson continues his near 3 year stint with the East Coast Blues favorite, Tom Larsen,  headlining venues ranging from small clubs, music festivals to large music clubs.

In between live performances, clinics and sessions Robinson is a busy educator and writer.  Teaching about 20 private lessons per week in Dover, Delaware for Earle Teat Music Store.  Focused on taking the art of percussion to the highest level possible Robinson sees only the open road ahead… a long and disciplined one…
